When she was only five years old her family moved to Oxfordshire and went to an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma was only six when she decided that she wanted to be an actor. The actress trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. By the age of ten she performed as well as taken as the main character in several Stagecoach shows and school productions. When 1999 began, casting was announced in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents discovered Emma via her Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after the eight auditions that she'd been chosen for these roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first appearance in a film was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The film set records for opening day and weekend revenues, and it also became the highest-grossing film of 2001. Emma's performance was nominated, and she won five awards later for the film.
